Tech-savvy mobile phone enthusiasts now have more options than ever to help them stay connected on the go. In years past, people had to find a traditional computer station, laptop or internet cafe in order to go online, but the popularity of smart phones allows users to go online while they are traveling, at school or in the workplace.

Considerations when Purchasing an Internet-Enabled Smart Phone

If you are shopping for a smart phone, it’s important to make sure that you end up with a phone that includes the features that you’re most interested in. Although you can certainly expect popular smart phones such as Motorola Android phones to have internet capabilities, be sure to shop around and see if there are specific models that have extra features that may cater to your web browsing style even more. Examples may include a feature that fills in website forms for you automatically, or even an application for a social media website such as Facebook.

Wireless Hotspots vs. 3G Connectivity

Think about the sorts of locations from which you most often access the Internet. For example, if you tend to use the Internet in areas that have a lot of public wireless hotspots, you may not need a phone that has 3G capabilities. On the other hand, if you want to ensure that you can use the Internet whenever the desire strikes, it’s a good idea to choose a smart phone that has 3G capabilities as well as wireless hotspot connectivity. Your Children and Social Networking

When your children come home and tell you that literately everyone that they know has a facebook page, they are probably telling you the truth. Not only do all their friends have a facebook page but nearly every person alive has a facebook page. People are joining facebook in record number. Social networking is one of the largest phenomenons of its time. However, as a parent you are probably worried about your children entering the world of social networking.

You should be worried for many reasons, however there are ways to control your children’s access to social networking and ensure that they are using social networking properly.

The first and most important thing that you need to do when your children what to start a facebook page is to start one as well. The only way that you can know for sure what your children are doing online is to be a part of it. If you are a friend of your child’s then you are able to see what they are saying to others, what others are saying to them, and what pictures they are posting online. On the plus side, your children are less likely to get involved in inappropriate behavior because they know that you are watching.

The Benefits and Cons of Social Networking

So many people are connecting online. You are able to build personal relationships as well as business relationships through social networking. While there are many benefits there are also cons of social networking that you need to be aware of.

The benefits of social networking are that you will be able to communicate with thousands of people at one time. If you are own your business or are trying to sell a skill that you have like painting or poetry online, social networking is a great way to update people to what you are doing. Lets say that you are poet who wants to alert their following to a poetry reading that you will be doing, social networking is a great way to ensure that you reach as many people as possible.

With social networking you are also able to connect with people who share the passion as you. If you are in an industry and are connected with other people who are in your industry you might be able to communicate with people who can help to further your career within the industry.

However, there are some down sides to working within the industry. There are several ways that you can hurt your career by social networking. It seems like every time we turn on the news there is a story about someone who posted pictures from a crazy weekend and therefore did not get a job they wanted. Research shows that more and more companies are looking at people’s sites to determine what kind of person they are. If you have something on your site that makes you look bad or irresponsible, then you are may not get a job that you really want.

Internet Friends or Foes

With so many people communicating over the internet, relationships are being formed and reconnected online. However, people need to be aware of the information that they are putting out online and who can see that information. Everyday, we hear warnings about putting information online for other people to find, but people rarely worry about people they do not know having their information on sites like facebook.

For one thing, think about the times when people you knew from the past look you up after years of not speaking to you. Many times, people want to look you up on the internet simply for the purpose of reconnecting about the past. If you have something in your past that you do not want people in your present life to know about, or you rather not spend your time online rehashing about the past, then you might need to consider not allowing these people to be your friends.

Think about the people who ask to be your friend and then never make an effort to talk to you again. What is their real purpose for finding you online and never speaking with you again. Think about all the effort that it must have taken for them to find you. If you have changed your name or are not longer living in the same area, they must have had search for you for quite awhile. If they made that much of an effort and then can’t take the time to speak with you, their motives are probably not pure, so consider if you really want them to have access to your information.

Also, consider how much information you have available for people to see online. You probably have photographs, the schools you attended and where you work. Do you really want people you barely talk with to have that kind of information.
